Cockroaches are running rampant at a local apartment building -- even invading the homes of people who take pride in keeping their homes clean.
"At night, they come running down the sidewalk," Cindy Stanley said. "I don’t mind how other people live, but when their filth and cockroaches come into my space, that’s enough. I’m mad."
Charlotte Atkinson, another nearby resident, said, "My son was showing me where they were all over the outside of his screen on the window. I’m on my way to get bug spray now.”
Lynda Perkins, apartment manager at Pomeroy Cliffs Apartment, said, "It’s horrible. They’re taking over.”
It's a landlord's worse nightmare.
“My nerves are on edge," Perkins said. "I can’t even work, the roaches are so bad."
The roaches poured from Apartment 9, which belongs to Sandra Bass. Perkins has managed the apartment complex for five years, and that's how long she's had a problem with Bass.
Bass wasn’t home and hasn't lived in the apartment for two weeks. Her electricity was cut off for non-payment. But, the filth is still there and has led to a roach infestation problem that's now invaded the entire complex -- including Perkins' office across the parking lot. She’s filed several eviction notices -- all of them tied up in court. Until the judge rules, she can’t even properly exterminate.
The eviction process normally takes two to three weeks, but this has taken two years. Just in the last nine months, we counted three motions to continue and a motion to dismiss. It's those kinds of delays filed by the tenants’ attorney that's driving the complex to the edge.
“There is one family that has moved into a trailer with no electricity," Stanley said. "They think no electricity is better than the roaches. At least they don’t have to stay up all night to make sure the roaches don’t crawl in bed with their babies.”
Meigs County Health Department officials have tried to condemn the apartment, but they're also at the mercy of the court system. They have been successful at getting criminal charges filed for maintaining a public nuisance.
Comments: This is a really disturbing excerpt regarding the effect of roach infestation. A roach exterminator should be immediately called on these situations. It could save you time, effort and stress. Like Coackroaches, roach exterminators are everywhere, and they are always one call away. Inquire around your neighborhood where the roach extermination services are offered and they are sure most willing to help. A roach exterminator will find the sources and attack it repeatedly.
